Crypto Twitter can be broken up into 3 main categories; Crypto Twitter, NFT Twitter, and Web3 Twitter. Each of these categories has its influencers, overlaps, shared communities, and subcategories of their own. Let’s first look at Crypto Twitter.

Crypto Twitter

Crypto Twitter has many accounts with very large followings. The opinions of these accounts are looked at with authority in the Crypto Space. These accounts not only sit on the top of influence but focus on the top level trends of crypto, like Bitcoin price.

\n In general, these accounts don’t dive too deep into any specific topic outside of the top blockchains. They are a decent way to start to learn about crypto.

Crypto News on Twitter

Next there are crypto news companies and influencers. Many of these accounts battle for giving the most up-to-date information. This, in relation to the link above can cause emotions to run even higher than the information from larger accounts.

Altcoins

Crypto Twitter is also broken up into the communities of various altcoins. Within them they also have a hierarchy of influence. Many top voices of altcoins are founders of blockchains. These communities tend to focus less on price and more on progress.

Degens

If you are new to crypto, beware of going too far down the list on CoinMarketCap. There are extremely high risk investments there. Many people investing in those projects are degens and you may see them on Twitter. Degens, or degenerates, are essentially crypto gamblers. \n \n This is a good time to mention Elon Musk. A crypto token with a low market cap often relies heavily on marketing. This marketing often happens on Twitter. There are influencers in this realm that are mini Elon’s for new degen tokens. Except they’ll take pay to promote the token.

NFT Twitter

NFT Twitter is a lifestyle of community gathered around NFTs. The two major elements of NFT Twitter are community and collecting. At the core of each project is community but they can somewhat be subcategorized as NFT Community and NFT Art community.

\n Each NFT project builds its own and unique community but there are overlaps in communities. Some communities center around a certain topic or aspect of life. Often these NFT communities donate to a charity that aligns with the goals of that specific NFT community.

\n Another form of community centers closer to the aspect of trading or “flipping” NFTs. In these communities you may find some members who are similar to the degens mentioned in regards to Crypto Twitter. A community can be a mixture of degens and purpose driven members.

NFT Art Community

The NFT Art Community deserves its own mention. It is more of one big pool of members rather than overlapping communities. Artists gather on Twitter to promote their art. This includes artists, musicians, and others, but it is mostly made up of visual artists.

\n The NFT Art Community breaches into the metaverse. The metaverse does not specifically have a big community on Twitter but is a great way to display art NFTs. And NFTs do have uses that have not been listed. This is where Web3 Twitter comes in.

Web3 Twitter

Web3 Twitter is similar to altcoin communities in Crypto Twitter. The focus is on technology, development, and building community around it. This is where you can find projects that are more like tech businesses rather than blockchains, crypto tokens, or NFT projects.

Closing Thoughts on Crypto Twitter

There is a hierarchy of influence across all of Crypto Twitter but there are webs of interactions as well. NFT Twitter and Web3 Twitter still have some of that top down interaction but are better at peer-to-peer and open forum type interactions.

This style of interaction is best seen in Twitter Spaces. In Twitter Spaces there is a Host, Co-Host, Speakers, and Listeners. In bigger Spaces it is more of a presentation to the listeners. In smaller Spaces it is more about the Listeners coming up to speak.
