17) The Metaverse: A Story of Exploration and Adventure

The Invitation

Alex was bored. He had nothing to do on a Saturday night. His friends were either busy, out of town, or sick. He had already watched all the shows and movies he was interested in. He had played all the games he had on his console and his phone. He had scrolled through all the social media apps he had on his device. He had nothing to do.

He was about to give up and go to bed early when he received a notification on his phone. It was an email from an unknown sender. It had a subject line that caught his attention: “You are invited to the Metaverse.”

He opened the email and read the message:

"Hello, Alex.

You have been selected as one of the lucky participants in the Metaverse Beta Test. The Metaverse is a new and revolutionary virtual reality platform that allows you to explore, create, and connect with other users in a limitless digital world. You can travel to any place, time, or dimension you can imagine. You can customize your avatar and your environment to suit your preferences. You can meet new friends and join communities that share your interests. You can have fun and adventure like never before.

To join the Metaverse Beta Test, all you need is a VR headset and a code that we have provided below. Simply enter the code in your VR app and you will be transported to the Metaverse. The Beta Test will last for one week, starting from today. You can log in and out as many times as you want during this period. You can also invite up to three friends to join you in the Metaverse by sharing your code with them.

Alex was intrigued by the email. He had heard of virtual reality before, but he had never tried it. He wondered what the Metaverse was like and what he could do there. He decided to give it a try. He grabbed his VR headset that he had bought on a whim but never used. He downloaded the VR app on his phone and entered the code.

He put on the headset and pressed start.

He was greeted by a voice that said: “Welcome to the Metaverse.”

He felt a sensation of movement and then he saw a bright light.

He opened his eyes and gasped.

He was in the Metaverse.

The Exploration

Alex was amazed by the metaverse. He felt like he had entered a whole new world. He looked around and saw a vast landscape of mountains, forests, lakes, and cities. He saw other users with different avatars, some human-like, some animal-like, some fantastical. He saw portals that led to other realms and dimensions. He saw signs and banners that advertised various events and activities.

He decided to explore the metaverse and see what it had to offer. He walked around and interacted with some of the users and objects he encountered. He learned that he could do almost anything he wanted in the metaverse. He could play games, watch shows, listen to music, shop, learn, create, and more. He could also earn and spend virtual currency called MetaCoins that he could use to buy or sell items and services.

He was having fun and losing track of time. He wondered what else he could do in the metaverse. He remembered that he had received an email from the Metaverse Team that said he could invite up to three friends to join him in the metaverse by sharing his code with them. He thought that it would be more fun to explore the metaverse with his friends. He opened his phone app and sent his code to his best friends: Jake, Mia, and Sam.

He waited for a few minutes until he received notifications that his friends had joined the metaverse. He saw their avatars appear near him. They looked like themselves, but with some modifications. Jake had a pair of wings on his back. Mia had a cat tail and ears. Sam had a robotic arm and leg.

“Hey, Alex! This is awesome!” Jake exclaimed.

“Wow, this is so cool! Thanks for inviting us!” Mia said.

“Hey, what’s up? This is amazing!” Sam said.

“Hey, guys! I’m glad you’re here! This is the metaverse!” Alex said.

They greeted each other and exchanged compliments on their avatars. They asked Alex how he found out about the metaverse and what he had done so far. Alex told them about the email he received and the things he had seen and done in the metaverse.

“So, what do you want to do now?” Alex asked.

They looked around and saw many options. They saw a sign that said “Join the Metaverse Olympics and compete for prizes”. They saw a portal that said “Enter the Fantasy Realm and embark on an epic quest”. They saw a banner that said “Watch the latest blockbuster movie in 3D”.

They were all tempted by different things, but they decided to stick together and vote on what they wanted to do first.

They voted and agreed on one thing: they wanted to fly.

They looked for a way to fly in the metaverse. They saw some users with jetpacks or hoverboards. They saw some users with wings or magic spells. They saw some users with flying vehicles or animals.

They decided to look for a flying vehicle that could fit all four of them. They searched for a shop that sold such vehicles. They found one that had a variety of models and prices.

They entered the shop and browsed through the options. They saw cars, bikes, boats, planes, helicopters, rockets, balloons, and more.

They were about to choose one when Alex remembered something.

He remembered that he had bought a UFO NFT a few weeks ago on an online marketplace. He had bought it as a joke, not knowing what it was or what it could do. He had paid 10 MetaCoins for it, which was not much at all.

He wondered if he could use it in the metaverse.

He opened his inventory list and looked for it. He found it under his NFTs category. It was a small icon that showed a saucer-shaped craft with lights around it.

He tapped on it and selected “Spawn”.

He saw a flash of light in front of him.

He saw his UFO NFT appear in full size in front of him.

It was a sleek silver craft that looked like something out of a sci-fi movie. It had a dome-shaped cockpit with windows all around it. It had four seats inside with controls and screens. It had lights that blinked in different colors.

It looked awesome.

He showed it to his friends.

“Guys, check this out! This is my UFO NFT!” Alex said.

“Whoa! That’s so cool! How did you get that?” Jake asked.

“I bought it online as a joke. I didn’t know it could do this!” Alex said.

“That’s amazing! Can we ride it?” Mia asked.

“Sure! Let’s go!” Alex said.

They got inside the UFO and buckled up. Alex took the pilot seat and looked at the controls. He saw a button that said “Start”.

He pressed it.

He heard a hum and felt a vibration.

He saw a message on the screen that said “Welcome to your UFO NFT. Enjoy your flight.”

He saw a joystick and a throttle.

He moved them.

He felt the UFO lift off the ground and hover in the air.

He felt a thrill and a smile.

He looked at his friends and saw their expressions of awe and excitement.

They were ready to fly.

They flew out of the shop and into the sky.

They flew over the metaverse and saw its wonders.

They flew over mountains, forests, lakes, and cities.

They flew over other realms and dimensions.

They flew over other users and objects.

They flew over everything they wanted to see.

They had fun and adventure like never before.

They were in the metaverse.

And they loved it.
