The Gift of Giving

Anna was a young girl who loved to draw and paint. She had a talent for creating beautiful artworks that expressed her feelings and imagination. She always dreamed of becoming a famous artist someday, and sharing her creations with the world.

One day, she heard about a contest for young artists. The winner would get a scholarship to study at a prestigious art school, and have their work displayed in a gallery. Anna was excited and decided to enter the contest. She spent weeks working on her masterpiece, a colorful painting of a garden full of flowers and butterflies.

She was very proud of her painting, and hoped that it would impress the judges. She carefully wrapped it in paper and took it to the contest venue. She registered her name and handed over her painting to the staff. They told her that the results would be announced in a few days, and wished her good luck.

Anna went home feeling hopeful and happy. She couldn’t wait to hear the news. She imagined how wonderful it would be to win the contest, and to pursue her dream of becoming an artist.

The next day, she was walking to school when she saw something that made her stop. It was a boy, about her age, sitting on the sidewalk. He had a sketchbook in his lap, and a pencil in his hand. He was drawing something, but he looked sad and frustrated. His clothes were dirty and torn, and he had a bandage on his arm.

Anna felt curious and approached him. She asked him what he was drawing. He looked up at her with a shy smile, and showed her his sketchbook. It was full of drawings of cars, buildings, animals, and people. They were very detailed and realistic, but they lacked color and life.

He told her that he loved to draw, but he didn’t have any paints or brushes. He only had a pencil that he found on the street. He said that he wanted to make his drawings more beautiful, but he didn’t have any money to buy art supplies. He said that he lived in an orphanage, and that he had no family or friends.

Anna felt sorry for him, and admired his passion for drawing. She thought that he had a lot of potential, and that he deserved a chance to express himself fully. She decided to do something for him.

She ran back home, and grabbed her backpack. She took out all of her paints, brushes, markers, crayons, and stickers. She also took out some of her own drawings that she had made for fun. She put everything in a big box, and wrapped it with a ribbon.

She ran back to the boy, and gave him the box. She told him that it was a gift from her, and that he could use everything inside to make his drawings more colorful and lively. She also told him that she liked his drawings, and that he should keep practicing and improving his skills.

The boy was speechless. He couldn’t believe that someone would give him such a generous gift. He opened the box, and saw all the art supplies and drawings inside. His eyes widened with wonder and joy. He thanked Anna with tears in his eyes, and hugged her tightly.

He told her that she was very kind, and that she had made him very happy. He said that he would treasure her gift, and use it to create more beautiful artworks. He also said that he would always remember her as his first friend.

Anna felt happy too. She felt a warm glow in her heart, as she saw the boy’s smile. She realized that she had given him more than just art supplies. She had given him hope, confidence, happiness, and friendship.

She decided not to care about the contest anymore. She knew that winning or losing didn’t matter as much as giving or receiving. She knew that she had already won something more valuable than any prize or recognition.

She had won the gift of giving.
