Despite neglecting his health, he works hard but collapses from exhaustion and ends up in the hospital. There, he meets Lisa, the librarian who helped him with his website
All at Once
Oscar the octopus had a big dream: to make the world a better place with flowers. But he had a small problem: he didn’t know how to use a computer. He had learned everything he could about flowers from books and magazines, but he wanted to share his knowledge and passion with more people. He wanted to create a non-profit project named FlowersOfAppreciation, where he would send flowers to people who needed them, such as sick children, lonely elders, or brave heroes.
He had heard that the internet was a powerful tool to reach millions of people around the world, but he had no idea how to use it. He didn’t even have a computer of his own. He had to sneak into the library at night and use the one that was left on by the librarian. He had to be careful not to be seen by the security guard or the janitor, who would chase him away if they caught him.
He spent many nights trying to figure out how to create a blog, an online store, and a website for his project. He watched tutorials, read articles, and followed instructions. He made many mistakes and got frustrated many times. But he never gave up. He was determined to make his dream come true.
He learned how to write posts about different types of flowers and their meanings, how to upload photos of his beautiful arrangements, how to set up a payment system for donations and purchases, and how to design a logo and a banner for his website. He worked hard and fast, knowing that he only had a few hours each night before the library closed.
He was proud of his progress and excited about his project. He hoped that people would find his website and support his cause. He dreamed of receiving messages from people who thanked him for his work and shared their stories of how flowers had changed their lives.
But he also felt tired. He hadn’t slept in days. He barely ate or drank anything. He ignored his friends and family who worried about him and tried to convince him to take a break. He thought he didn’t have time for anything else but his project. He thought he had to do everything by himself.
He didn’t realize that he was pushing himself too hard and that he was risking his health and happiness. He didn’t realize that he was missing out on the joy of life and the beauty of nature. He didn’t realize that he was losing sight of his original purpose: to spread love and appreciation with flowers.
One night, as he was finishing his website, he felt a sharp pain in his head. He gasped and clutched his temples. He felt dizzy and nauseous. He looked at the screen and saw blurry words and colors. He tried to focus, but everything went black.
He collapsed on the keyboard, unconscious.
The next morning, the librarian found him lying on the floor next to the computer. She recognized him as the octopus who had been sneaking into the library for weeks. She felt sorry for him and called an ambulance.
She also noticed the website that was still open on the screen. She read the title: FlowersOfAppreciation.org
She clicked on it and saw Oscar’s work: his posts, his photos, his logo, his banner.
She was amazed by his talent and passion.
She decided to help him.
She shared his website on her social media accounts and asked her friends and followers to check it out and support his project.
She also printed out flyers and posters with Oscar’s website address and distributed them around town.
She contacted local newspapers and radio stations and told them about Oscar’s story and mission.
She did everything she could to spread the word about FlowersOfAppreciation.org
She hoped that Oscar would wake up soon and see what she had done for him.
She hoped that he would be happy and proud.
She hoped that he would realize that he was not alone in his dream.
She hoped that he would appreciate himself as much as he appreciated flowers.
Oscar woke up in a hospital bed. He felt groggy and confused. He looked around and saw machines, tubes, and wires attached to his body. He heard beeping sounds and voices.
He tried to remember what had happened. He remembered working on his website at the library. He remembered feeling a pain in his head. He remembered falling to the ground.
He wondered if he had finished his website. He wondered if anyone had seen it. He wondered if his project was still alive.
He felt a hand holding his tentacle. He turned his head and saw a woman sitting next to him. She had brown hair and glasses. She wore a blue dress and a badge that said “Librarian”.
She smiled at him and said: “Hello, Oscar. I’m glad you’re awake.”
Oscar blinked and said: “Who are you? Where am I?”
The woman said: “I’m Lisa, the librarian from the library where you used to work on your computer. You’re in the hospital. You had a stroke caused by exhaustion and dehydration. You’ve been unconscious for three days.”
Oscar gasped and said: “Three days? What about my website? What about my project?”
Lisa said: “Don’t worry, Oscar. Your website is fine. Your project is amazing. I’ve seen it and I’ve helped you.”
She reached for a laptop that was on a table next to the bed. She opened it and turned it towards Oscar.
She said: “Look, Oscar. This is your website: FlowersOfAppreciation.org”
Oscar looked at the screen and saw his website. He saw his posts, his photos, his logo, his banner.
He also saw something new: a counter that showed how many visitors, donations, and orders his website had received.
He was shocked by the numbers. They were in the thousands.
He also saw something else: a section that displayed messages from people who had visited his website and supported his project.
He read some of them:
“Thank you, Oscar, for sending me flowers on my birthday. I was feeling lonely and depressed, but your flowers brightened up my day and made me smile.”
“Thank you, Oscar, for sending flowers to my mother who is in the hospital. She has cancer and she is fighting for her life. Your flowers gave her hope and strength.”
“Thank you, Oscar, for sending flowers to my son who is a soldier in Afghanistan. He misses home and he is scared of dying. Your flowers reminded him of his family and his country.”
“Thank you, Oscar, for sending flowers to my friend who is a teacher in a poor school. She works hard to educate her students and make them happy. Your flowers showed her that her work is appreciated and valued.”
Oscar couldn’t believe what he was reading. He felt tears in his eyes.
He said: “These people… they are thanking me… they are saying that my flowers have changed their lives…”
Lisa said: “Yes, Oscar. They are thanking you because you have changed their lives with your flowers. You have made them happy with your passion.”
She said: “You have done an amazing job, Oscar. You have created something beautiful and meaningful with your project.”
She said: “You have made a difference in the world, Oscar.”
Oscar felt overwhelmed by emotions.
He said: “Thank you, Lisa… thank you for helping me… thank you for showing me this…”
Lisa said: “You’re welcome, Oscar… you’re welcome for helping you… you’re welcome for showing you this…”
She said: “But I’m not the only one who helped you or showed you this…”
She said: “There are many people who want to help you or show you this…”
She said: “There are many people who want to join your project or support your cause…”
She said: “There are many people who want to meet you or talk to you…”
She said: “There are many people who appreciate you or love you…”
She pointed at the door of the hospital room.
She said: “Look, Oscar.”
Oscar looked at the door and saw a crowd of people standing outside.
He saw reporters with cameras and microphones.
He saw donors with checks and flowers.
He saw customers with orders and smiles.
He saw friends with hugs and gifts.
He saw family with kisses and tears.
He saw people of all ages, races, genders, and backgrounds.
They all had one thing in common:
They all knew Oscar.
They all knew his story.
They all knew his mission.
They all knew his dream.
They all cheered and clapped for him.
They all shouted and chanted his name.
They all said: “Oscar! Oscar! Oscar!”
Oscar was speechless.
He was stunned.
He was touched.
He was happy.
He smiled and waved at them.
He said: “Hello, everyone. I’m Oscar. I’m the octopus who loves flowers.”
The crowd cheered louder and louder.
Lisa smiled and hugged him.
She said: “You see, Oscar. You’re not alone in your dream. You have many friends and supporters who share your vision and passion.”
She said: “You have many people who care about you and want you to be happy and healthy.”
She said: “You have many people who appreciate you and love you.”
She said: “You have me.”
Oscar hugged her back.
He said: “Thank you, Lisa. Thank you for everything. You’re my best friend. You’re my hero. You’re my angel.”
He said: “I appreciate you. I love you.”
Lisa kissed him on the cheek.
She said: “You’re welcome, Oscar. You’re welcome for everything. You’re my best friend. You’re my hero. You’re my angel.”
She said: “I appreciate you. I love you.”
They looked into each other’s eyes and smiled.
They felt a connection that was deeper than words.
They felt a bond that was stronger than flowers.
They felt a love that was bigger than the world.
The end.
