A tragic 💔love #story between a lonely woman & the🌕 #moon god, #folklore inspired by the cultural & medical aspects of the #willow tree 🌳

The Willow and the Moon

Long ago, there was a young woman named Willow who lived by the river. She was beautiful and kind, but also lonely and sad. She had no family or friends, and she spent her days weaving baskets and mats from the willow branches that grew near her hut.

One night, as she was gazing at the moon, she felt a strange connection with the silvery orb. She felt as if the moon was speaking to her, telling her secrets and stories. She felt a warmth and a light in her heart that she had never felt before.

She decided to make a special gift for the moon, to show her gratitude and love. She gathered the finest willow branches and wove them into a harp. She decorated it with pearls and feathers, and tuned it to the sound of the river. She waited for the next full moon, and then she took her harp to the riverbank.

She played her harp and sang a song of praise to the moon. The moon heard her song and was enchanted by her voice and her beauty. The moon descended from the sky and took the form of a handsome man. He approached Willow and thanked her for her gift. He told her that he was the god of the moon, and that he had been watching her for a long time.

He asked her to come with him to his palace in the sky, where they could live together in happiness and harmony. Willow was overjoyed and agreed to go with him. She took her harp and followed him to the river, where he lifted her up in his arms and flew into the night.

They arrived at his palace, which was made of silver and crystal. It was filled with wonders and delights, such as gardens of flowers, fountains of wine, and animals of all kinds. Willow was amazed by everything she saw, but most of all by the moon himself. He was gentle and generous, and he showered her with gifts and affection.

They spent many days and nights together, playing music, dancing, laughing, and loving. Willow felt happier than she had ever been in her life. She forgot about her old home by the river, and about everything else in the world.

But one day, she noticed that something was wrong. The moon looked pale and weak, and his light was fading. He told her that he had been neglecting his duty as the god of the moon, and that he had to return to his place in the sky. He said that he loved her more than anything, but that he could not stay with her any longer.

He asked her to come with him again, but this time as his wife. He said that he would make her a goddess of the moon, and that they would rule over the night together. He said that he would give her immortality and power, but that she would have to leave behind everything else in the world.

Willow was torn between two choices. She loved the moon with all her heart, but she also loved the earth with all its beauty and diversity. She remembered her old home by the river, where she had been happy in her own way. She remembered the willow trees that had given her shelter and comfort.

She asked him for some time to think about his offer. He agreed, but warned her that he could not wait for long. He said that he would come back for her on the next full moon, and that she would have to make up her mind by then.

He kissed her goodbye and left for the sky.

Willow was left alone in his palace, with only her harp for company. She played it every night, hoping to hear his voice again. But she also looked out of the window, longing for a glimpse of the earth.

She thought about what it would mean to become a goddess of the moon. She thought about how she would never grow old or die, but also how she would never change or grow. She thought about how she would have everything she wanted, but also how she would have nothing else to want.

She thought about what it would mean to leave behind everything else in the world. She thought about how she would never see or touch or smell or taste anything again, except for silver and crystal. She thought about how she would never hear or speak or sing or laugh again, except for silence.

She realized that she did not want to become a goddess of the moon. She realized that she wanted to remain a human being on earth.

She decided to reject his offer.

She packed her harp and left his palace. She flew down to the earth, looking for her old home by the river.

But when she got there, she found that everything had changed.

The river had dried up, and the land had become barren. The willow trees had withered away, and nothing else grew there anymore. The animals had died or fled, and no one else lived there anymore.

She learned that many years had passed since she had left with the moon. She learned that the earth had suffered from droughts and famines, wars and plagues, disasters and calamities. She learned that the people had blamed the moon for their misfortunes, and had cursed him and his lover.

She realized that she had made a terrible mistake.

She cried out for the moon, but he did not answer. She looked up at the sky, but he did not appear. She played her harp, but he did not hear.

She realized that he had forgotten her.

She fell to the ground, clutching her harp to her chest. She wept and wept, until her tears soaked the earth. She wished and wished, until her heart broke.

She died.

But as she died, something miraculous happened.

Her body turned into a willow tree, and her harp turned into a branch. Her tears turned into water, and her wishes turned into flowers. Her spirit turned into light, and her voice turned into music.

She became a part of the earth again.

And every night, when the moon rose in the sky, he would see her shining in the dark. He would hear her singing in the wind. He would feel her calling in his soul.

He remembered her.

He regretted his offer.

He mourned her loss.

He loved her still.

But he could not reach her.

He could only watch her from afar, as she watched him back.

They could never be together again.

But they were never apart either.

They were the willow and the moon.

THE END

***I creaeted two pictures for this story. This ne that depicts life, and the other represents death. It is a Yin & Yang story or can be looked as the circle of life. Props to my friend Shaylynn for the inspiration.***
