Perhaps simply for the fun of it. To me, January 1 is the greatest day of the year and the fact that it lands on a Monday is even better. Typically I call Mondays my blank canvas day. It is the day where we flip from last week to next week. This year our first Monday flips us to a whole new year! How exciting!

While I did not keep up as the end of the year came, my determination for 2024 is fully launching a monthly newsletter. This initial article is the start of this new phase for Britts Two Cents. I don&rsquo;t often mention B2C besides certain reviews and food posts. That&rsquo;s changing though as I continue to add more lines to my forever tapestry. I tend to think in visuals. When I share content, I see it as me adding another detail to this ongoing tapestry that is simply out there for the world to see as they please.&nbsp;

Anything that I wanted to share regarding food, personal stories or non-business items, the plan was putting it in the B2C pile. In 2023 though, I had a number of experiences and interactions that allowed me to see that B2C is just that. It's my musings and sharing on anything I desire. Therefore these monthly newsletters will be a mixture of personal points and ongoing business updates and thoughts.&nbsp;

I have learned to lean into my passion for business just as I do my love of experimenting with food, drawing different patterns and meeting new people. I bet if I broke down my life into a pie chart, I would see that the majority of my interest is in business. I immediately pinned it and have not removed it, not sure when I will. The post was the first time I publicly shared about this idea I had about 5 years ago. I wanted to create an online oasis and envisioned sharing this somehow. I didn&rsquo;t know then how this would happen and I still don&rsquo;t recognize that I&rsquo;ve managed to build on this brain baby.

We hosted shows every Sunday at 10am pst as the months continued, we were awestruck by the incredible people we talk with regularly. Part of the idea behind The Unseen Spectrum Project is shining a light on people. We all matter. We all have something to say. We are in existence for a reason. We ended out the first season at the end of December and will announce when the new season starts up for 2024. In the meantime, look forward to more updates on our current community project, #gratitudeseason.

This was a great addition to the work we were doing with The Unseen Spectrum Show and while the first season was short, it sure was sweet!

The focus in our chat and for our show together is being able to ask questions, share perspectives from multiple backgrounds in arbitrage and encourage others considering the flip life. Arrangements are in place to also add in guests for season two. We will announce the new season when it is time. 😉

Applying the concept of holistic health to my business and sales practice has been eye opening. This led me to start sharing periodically on this subject. This monthly segment will facilitate adding upon this idea.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I have found for myself that as I build upon my sales and business skills, I lean into my upbringing more and more. My parents instilled in me that where we shop, what we listen to, what we watch, etc. does show who we are inside. As if our actions and choices are a mirror into the soul. This included work. The religious organization we belonged to taught that we must choose where we work carefully, even turning down more money if it meant compromising our conscience or the principles we lived by.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">For example, when I was in nursing school, part of why I didn&rsquo;t believe it was a good path for my career was having to establish that I wouldn&rsquo;t complete certain procedures or say no to certain options available due to the customs I lived by. I found it difficult to separate those customs from my career saving lives, and how I would see life in 10, 20 and 30 years time. Long story short, at the start of 2023 I told myself, by the end of the year I will decide and execute on whether I would remain with the same company.&nbsp;

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The decision had a few facets to evaluate. Where do I see myself in 2, 5, 10 years with that company? (Just as I asked myself at 19) How does what I do and learn from work impact my career and business path? Zig Ziglar added in remembering to ask, &ldquo;do I believe in what I do?&rdquo;, since that answers questions like, &ldquo;why am I struggling to close?&rdquo;. Gary Vee reminded me to ask, &ldquo;why dread Monday?&rdquo;. And my parents voice said, &ldquo;how does what you do daily make you feel as a person?&rdquo;. There were highs and there were lows as I navigated deciding where I spend a lot of my time and energy, work.&nbsp;

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">As we entered quarter three, I was more confident that the way forward was finding a new position. Part of this decision was recognizing that I am what I call, a holistic businessperson. My goal at the end of the day is doing what I can to benefit customers, and customers are people. People are humans and then I think of a question a really great manager taught me once, &ldquo;How would you feel looking at this if you were the customer? Put yourself in their shoes. How do you feel about it?&rdquo;. With my new role I can heartily say that I am able to take the time to evaluate that. I&rsquo;m on the buying side of negotiations and this has been a great transition mentally and for my career goals. This change to the &ldquo;other side&rdquo; of business fuels my desire to learn and work more in the field of negotiation.

Do not feel ashamed if something about a situation does not feel right for you. Most importantly, trust your gut.

Big BT or T0k. When I think about the month ahead, I couldn&rsquo;t continue it without allowing this project to come to its graceful end, just as an autumn leaf falls to the ground. Can you believe it is October? I kind of can because I have been dreaming of cooler days, some clouds and the warmth that we create around us to enjoy our journey into winter. The majority of this monthly review article will focus on a project that has been absorbing my time on and off for a number of months. It's like starting at the end of a rainbow and finding the pot of gold on the other side as I see it come together.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Perhaps that was the point of that fabled tale of the leprechaun, the rainbow and the pot o&rsquo; gold. We often imagine a huge vat of unending gold when we hear the story and perhaps enjoy a box of Lucky Charms. I&rsquo;m going to continue thinking about this very visual story and creative way to describe finding a great reward at the end of an interesting journey. This recent journey has been for a community member that shows up constantly publicly and behind the scenes for myself, others and The Unseen Spectrum Project. Bryan was one of the first to help me at various times not just for the overall show and project but simple ways too. We&rsquo;ve had deep and light conversations and even have had those come back together moments where we see how family takes so many shapes.

He agreed to practicing patience and embracing time. Time has allowed me to create a couple of drawings (one you won&rsquo;t see until it falls into their laps), collect items to send off including a couple of items from community members gifts to me. I suppose in my pot o&rsquo; gold love I&rsquo;ve been granted, I&rsquo;m able to practice regifting to perpetuate that love forward. Ben Kind and Ember are those members. Ben sent me a few VeeFam bracelets, cards and a beautiful message. Ember gave me a cherished unicorn plush that she has with the mark, &lsquo;love is forever&rsquo;.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">September was an incredibly fun month and tested me in ways that felt like I was passed through another round of fire. Each round of fire leads to a better version of myself and that is for all of us. The biggest step I took forward in pursuing was starting the Morning Biz w/ Britt podcast. This was an item that was part of this test since it forced me to openly talk about a broad and often difficult subject to discuss, business. It is also early in the morning for me on Tuesdays and it has helped me realize I can get up at 0500 and have a coherent, shop talk conversation at 0600. This helped me see that while difficult to start, I&rsquo;m getting stronger with each step I take.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The idea behind the show is opening up a discussion around business news to keep in mind currently and collaboration through a number of topics. This Tuesday we will be kicking off our first collaborative conversation with the Flip Crew! This includes a few of us that utilize flipping or arbitrage to develop various skills in e-commerce and income options. All of us are a part of Gary Vee&rsquo;s Vaynerntion in one way or another and have come together with time and patience to start talking together and helping others develop this powerful tool. Gary has his Trash Talk show as a fun way to help others understand the art of arbitrage through garage sales, thrifting and bargaining. While not everyone follows Gary, many can agree that understanding how to buy low and sell high is always a great skill to learn!

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">One last take away from September before falling forward into October, is recognizing it as Suicide Prevention month which coincides with the time of year that suicide rates statistically go up. A friend pointed out that this time lasts until February and we need to be aware of the signs in us and others simply out of love and concern. Remember to take care of yourself, your family and friends and community members. We don&rsquo;t always know or understand what we are each going through and sometimes saying the right word at the right time is all we need to create a ripple of light instead of darkness in someone&rsquo;s life.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">This morning we discussed that very idea on this first day of October with the dankest lady on earth, Dank Sunset! She eloquently explained the ripples we create around us and how we do need to fall back simply so we can fall forward in growth. Often we think about Fall as the wind down season for the year, but I want to see it as a way to fall forward into that end and get ready for 2024! Last year I made the remaining quarter a time of pipelining and planning for just that and I would say, 2023 has been a really fucking great year for me. Personally, in business and in recovery. I am far from perfect and fully recognize I am still a babe in many areas and that&rsquo;s the beauty of life.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I am commencing with the annual tradition for making this last quarter a mixture of pipelining and planning. My current focus is pulling back and exercising patience while I decide what areas needed pipelining and planning. Pipelining here is in reference to what is referred to in Rich Dad, Poor Dad about having the patience to build a process that will last long term and provide what is required and then some. There are also signs in the economy and business around the world, nationally and locally to bear in mind as always. Also, one of my companies is coming up on its two year anniversary which also means it has surpassed the early failure statistics. The next phase will be building upon that and making sure the foundation I&rsquo;m building remains in place and cures before adding too much, too soon.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I used to volunteer on construction projects and I came into the training at a time when the organization had realized that quicker isn&rsquo;t always better. Quicker is optimal since it reduces budgets, material costs and labor costs. If we execute too quickly though we find ourselves like the man carrying buckets of water in the story the Rich Dad gave to Robert Kyosaki and his friend to teach them the power of pipelining. The true victor in this story was the one that chose to be patient and tackle a community concern due to the lack of access to clean water their area had. Instead of moving quickly and carrying buckets, he collaborated and created a partnership that built an actual pipeline for bringing water to the community's finger tips. This did actually happen and that man went on to create the same pipeline for rural communities around the world. All because he patiently paused and thought about how to create a lasting solution and not simply a mediation that relied on the backs of people to carry the water.

Last week on the morning show Anupam and I discussed the most important asset we all have, ourselves. In business we must always remember that even when we use machines, there are still people somewhere at the helm. People are what make up any organization whether business in nature or not. We must take care of ourselves and learn how to take care of those around us.

What I love most about today is that even though we don&rsquo;t all have equal access around the world, that is changing day by day and step by step. Today we enjoyed hearing from someone in a part of the world we may never travel to. This reminded all of us how beautiful the internet can be.&nbsp;

This is my monthly update newsletter reviewing the past month and updates. In September our theme was pursuing passion and October was all about practicing patience. We also celebrated a brother and great community member, Bryan Turner and his family by delivering our second Unseen Spectrum Project Care Package.

That&rsquo;s alright though, as the title illuminates, a month focused on optimism set the stage for allowing me to focus on my own passionate pursuits! Where do I begin&hellip;

It was a grind at the beginning as I had to have some very candid conversations in business that at certain moments made me visualize a gloves off boxing match. What I learned most from that time was how much patience plays a role in open communication. I was often reminded of people like Gary Vee telling us that the best way forward is having these tough conversations because they allow us to get to the heart of a matter. They help us take all the protective gear off and have a conversation down in the dirt, hand-to-hand. Through those conversations I believe I have continued forward in my career in business and ongoing work to build relationships rather than shred them down.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Once the tough conversations were out of the way, the month rolled by and a large piece of what helped me navigate those choppy moments was the choice to pick optimism as the core quality I was focusing on in August. This helped me put my best step forward and recognize when my own recovery needed to take a step forward in trust practice. Optimism was always this elusive quality since my background was steeped in realism, pessimism and even cynicism. I never understood it and I was anxious heading into August since my expectations were that it would remain elusive.

He mentioned optimism and we candidly discussed it out in the open. He presented this logical argument for why optimism is real: When we look back over our entire life, we know we have had more good than bad. We know that we woke up each day and we will wake up tomorrow to a new day. I used this argument throughout the month to remind myself that optimism is logical if we decide to see it that way. As the month wound down and I was able to have a number of great discussions about this quality, I started to prepare for pursuing passion in September.

About this time in the month I&rsquo;m actually starting to contemplate the next quality and I am not quick to pick one unless it seems or feels completely right. September has been all about pursuing passion. We are continuing to include regular discussions on The Unseen Spectrum show and the results are amazing! The perspectives and ideas shared over these last two months adding the theme has been incredible. I walk away from each one slightly different, slightly better and looking forward to the next one.&nbsp;

It was one of those ideas that I decided to be patient on and allow time and the universe to show me the right moment. An important conversation with a friend in late August caused me to take action and on Tuesday Sept. 5th, we started Morning Biz w/ Britt. We have had two successful episodes and are looking forward to the theme this Tuesday, Adding Productivity. I was really nervous for the first episode since this is a step outside my comfort zone however, I am happy to say that the second one was easier and the third will be cake!

A Month of Optimism: Setting the Stage for Passionate Pursuits

The Stoop is where a good number of us folks seem to enjoy congregating at. Ian invites one and all to join him on his virtual stoop as we pass our afternoons and evenings. From day one of hanging out on the stoop, there&rsquo;s always been open communication, trustworthy information, fun and shenanigans and most importantly, a family. Anupam helped me with the naming and I&rsquo;m happy to say, I was able to share the first piece of content ever on X. Around that time I was also starting to check out spaces. One fateful evening, I joined The Stoop and I haven&rsquo;t left. No one ever really does forever. By creating a chill, welcoming place for people to speak up and share their thoughts, Ian has made it easy to simply come and go. He is always experimenting and asking for input from the community.

As the months continued, we started The Unseen Spectrum Show in early spring and we have no intention of stopping!

Revisiting The Stoop on The Unseen Spectrum Show

Preamble: I wrote this the day that I graduated from a very hard and tough year in a court ordered program as part of my recovery from my past. I found this randomly when I was prepping to start an article and decided I&rsquo;m ready to share this publicly.
Also, after writing and during the graduation ceremony I was blessed with the court dismissing all charges.
And here goes&hellip; Today is a day of graduation and celebration. Of what you might ask? I am finishing a court program. This is not a subject I discuss or explain much but I am proud of my accomplishments.&nbsp;
Let me lay the backdrop.&nbsp;
In October of 2020 I made the final decision to leave what I call tenderly, &ldquo;the monster&rdquo;. I don&rsquo;t capitalize because well he doesn&rsquo;t deserve it. I was in a relationship with a &ldquo;man&rdquo; who became physically abusive and threatened my life multiple times. I was able to gain the strength to leave in 2020.&nbsp;
When I left I had borrowed money from a family member with the &ldquo;excuse&rdquo; of a business trip to Washington state. Upon my arrival&nbsp; to Tacoma I realized that I had run out of money and that I would soon be homeless. I didn&rsquo;t like the vibe of the area and it was October so while I stared down my prospects I decided definitively that I &ldquo;did not want to be homeless in Washington state&rdquo;. Lol.&nbsp;
So I hatched a &ldquo;plan&rdquo;...
The plan relied on meeting a man on a bus. Hahaha This man was from Reno and he told me that IF I came to Reno he could provide me with a job and a place to stay. So my rational mind thought &ldquo;gee galigher, sign me up.&rdquo; I spoke with him on the phone and it seemed like a genuine opportunity. I was able to get a bus down paid for by Washington state (thank you) resources because I &ldquo;had a job&rdquo; in Reno.&nbsp;
I arrived and well let&rsquo;s just say my first night and a number thereafter were spent on 4th street in a homeless shelter. That was a rude awakening and a welcome blessing for the freedom I gained from &ldquo;the monster&rdquo;. Who coincidentally told me pretty much that I was insane and would likely die or worse on this latest venture to Reno.&nbsp;
I had never stepped foot in Nevada and when I woke up and saw the mountains in the distance I just got this feeling that I might be okay. Over the course of the next month I met a lot of interesting people. Saw a lot of fascinating and disturbing things. Ate a lot of free food and then ended up in jail.&nbsp;
I spent two months in jail. At first I was disgusted and appalled at myself but then I began to realize that I was safe. I was warm. I was fed and I didn&rsquo;t get raped. I began to call it the longest vacation I ever had. Fortunately I was able to join a court program. Because of that program I was able to enter transitional housing that gave me the tools I really needed to get on my feet. I was offered this one year of court supervision instead of one year of jail.&nbsp;
From that program I was able to be released and get the help I needed. I landed a job that is allowing me to pursue my dream of being an entrepreneur and helping others do just that.
Am I grateful? Wholeheartedly.&nbsp;

The Unseen Spectrum Show presents Holistic Health: Humble Beginnings

I appreciate this quality since anytime I start to get anxious about whether I can actually do something that is outside my comfort zone, I lean into humility to push through. Humility reminds me to remember what I don&rsquo;t know, what I&rsquo;ve been through and what I can accomplish if I simply start with baby steps instead of fearing the unknown. One core piece of The Unseen Spectrum Show and Project is our health and recognizing that we are individuals just as much as we are a piece of the mass of mankind. As I continue to build the show and project, I wanted to bring health into the discussion and from an alternative, holistic perspective. I simply didn&rsquo;t know how and so I patiently and humbly waited until the pieces came together. We excitedly presented our first monthly Holistic Health segment in July and that continues to be recorded live on the last Saturday! He is one of the people that I am forever grateful to for the fact that I found a way to go. Him and I did not know each other and we had no idea what would come of one simple conversation while volunteering together. He mentioned an interest in developing holistic methods in healthcare. I encouraged Blaze to seriously pursue this since I had some medical training and others in my family that spent years in healthcare careers. I also understand too well seeing family members and others with chronic health problems that appreciate when they are treated on a holistic level.&nbsp;

Anupam is also a major backbone of The Unseen Spectrum Project since he takes care of the recordings and helps with graphics and episode planning.&nbsp;

As the show host I coordinate to make sure everyone is all set and that we are ready for each episode, keeping track of the overall discussion and sharing all about it everywhere. LOL

While I did not have time or room enough in this article to share more on the first discussion, I will share more with time on these and other episodes as there is a wealth of ideas discussed packed into each one! We introduced our second segment to The Unseen Spectrum Show called Holistic Health. In this episode we introduced our main panel: Blaze Hirsch, RN, T0k our CannaMan and various community members with time. We reviewed why Holistic Health is so important to discuss & practical steps to take for better self-care.

This was a very special weekend since it allowed us to add another aspect to the Unseen Spectrum Show and project which is helping people share what it takes to pursue their passion, even in tough industries like the music industry. A major aspect that stood out was how he started developing his talent and the impact that family can have on each one of us.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Dudja spent many of his early years close with a cousin that was a rapper and showed Dudja the 90s greats. As time went on unfortunately his cousin passed away and it was at that point Dudja decided he needed to pick up the mic and carry on in music. I look forward to the future release of his hidden song, Separated but Not Forgotten. He is set to release it when he believes it is truly time and the focus is that separation we all feel when we lose someone we love.&nbsp;

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">As the conversation continued we discussed the harsh reality of growing up in areas heavily affected by drugs like Meth and Heroin and seeing what people went through because of their addictions. I opened up about some of what I saw when I first arrived in Reno and meeting people who have had their lives ravaged by Meth. While we do agree that genetics is a major aspect of addiction, it is also something that each of us needs to be aware of and understand how we are impacted when we decide to try alternative options available.

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; color: #000000; background-color: transparent; font-weight: 400; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Throughout our conversation, entertainment was a major discussion from movies like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 to Space Ball references. And of course, the ongoing debate of just which Springfield in real life is depicted in The Simpsons. After much discussion, we both agree that it must be Massachusetts.&nbsp;

He focused a lot on not giving up our free speech and to keep doing what we&rsquo;re doing. One comment that stood out was making it clear that even when people say something sounds like shit, who cares? Keep going because others will like it and at the end of the day, if that is our passion, why stop?
